  • How to use Drain Smart discs
Container-grown plants can be an addition to an already flourishing landscape or a garden all by themselves. By planting in nursery pots, buckets, whiskey barrels, grow bags, or whatever else you find around the house, you’ll be adding aesthetic interest and practicality to your yard and home. 1) Place the Drain Smart disc mesh side down and the black fabric side up 2) Add the proper mix of planting soil and place the plant so that the roots are covered. 3) Water the plant Watering plants in containers is different than watering plants directly in the soil. Potting soil is often less dense than garden soil and thus holds less water. Additionally, the pot restricts the amount of soil to hold water. And because the pots are above ground, they don’t have all that mass around them to keep cool. Too much or too little water will kill your plants. The idea is to keep the soil moist throughout, but not wet. Many container-grown plants need to be watered once or twice a day when it is hot.
  • What are the Drain Smart advantages over stones, gravel, chips, or packing peanuts?"
Allows water to drain evenly, and over the entire area of disc Minimizes over-watering & reduces the chance of root-rot Quick and easy installation and without mess created by using rocks, gravel, packing peanuts, or bark No storing of bulky bags of gravel or bark Discs can be rinsed and stored for repeat use Minimizes soil from falling out of the bottom opening of your pot Protects from root-rot while helping to keep roots hydrated
  • What if the discs are too large for my pots?
Drain Smart discs are easily trimmed with scissors. Each disc is lightweight and composed of a 1/2 inch thick nylon mesh with a layer of geo-filter fabric heat-welded to one side. The nylon mesh elevates the filter off the bottom of the planter, allowing water to drain over the entire surface of the disc. The free space provided by the filter fabric encourages the water to drain directly into the mesh and then out of the planter. The filter fabric is designed to retain the soil and allows the water to pass through the mesh and out of the planter drain hole.
  • What sizes are available?
There are three great sizes to choose from: The 5-Pack: includes five 6 inch diameter discs The 2-Pack: includes two 9 inch diameter discs The 2-Pack: includes tw 12 inch diamter discs
  • Can the Drain Smart discs be reused?
Yes! Drain Smart discs last for years and can be re-used season after season. Simply rinse the disc and conveniently store for next use.
